Cecil Grey Thompson, age 71, of Ohio, Illinois was welcomed into the Kingdom of God by Our Lord and joined his parents on April 13, 2007. He was born on July 25, 1935 in Buda, Illinois to Grey B. and M. Lenore (Franklin) Thompson. Following graduation from Ohio High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving overseas in Europe. Upon his return to Ohio, he began farming with his father; he also worked as a handyman throughout the area, and enjoyed both occupations until his death. He married Marcia A. Dose on June 22, 1963, and was the proud father of four children. He was known as a strong volunteer in the community and for growing the best sweet corn in the area. In addition to farming and carpentry, he was a seed corn salesman, currently representing Golden Harvest.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his community and his church, his good nature, his work ethic, integrity, and willingness to help others. He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Ohio, Illinois; his children, Jim (Lori) Thompson of Loves Park, Illinois, Greg (Maria) Thompson of DeKalb, Illinois, Dan (Melissa ) Thompson of Henry, Illinois, and Brenda (Derek) Kehl of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael J. Thompson of Loves Park, Levi J Thompson of DeKalb, Daniel “Grey” Thompson II of Henry, and Olivia, Ciera and Mason Kehl of Davenport, Iowa; his sister, Beverly (Harry) Barton of Sheffield, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many cousins.
Funeral prayer services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut followed by mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio, with the Rev. Dan Wilder, pastor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ohio. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m..at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY.
