James M. Goodale Jr., age 85, of 209 S. 2nd Street, Walnut, Illinois died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Walnut Manor Nursing Home in Walnut.

Jim was born on January 22, 1922 in Galva, Illinois, the son of James M. and Ilma Irene (Nelson) Goodale Sr. He was united in marriage to Donna Gutschlag on May 18, 1947 in Kewanee, Illinois. He served in the United States Army Air Corp in North Africa, Italy and Spain, as a mechanic during WW II. He worked for about 25 years for GBH Homes in Walnut , Homeway Corporation and Walnut Custom Homes as a regional sales manager. He also owned and operated a barbershop for over 50 years in Walnut. He was a member of the Walnut United Methodist church, the Walnut Masonic Lodge #722 AM & FM and the American Legion Post #179. He was a member of the Green River Country Club in Walnut and was an avid golfer. “You did fantastic Jim - not bad for just a kid !!!”

He is survived by his wife Donna of Walnut, Illinois; two sons; Marty J. Goodale of Shorewood, Illinois, Jamie (Debbie) Goodale of Crystal Lake, Illinois; two daughters Christine (Rick) Norris of Moline, Illinois, Katherine (Paul) Von Holten of Bristol, Illinois; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; one sister, Lois (Arnold) Jacobs of Galva, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of the Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after services. Burial of cremains will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Kewanee at a later date. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY TO THE WALNUT FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE WALNUT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN LIEU OF FLOWERS.
