So sorry to hear of Uncle Francis' passing. I didn't know him very well, but he always checked in with my mom to see how we all were doing in Illinois. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.

When I received the call on the morning of Oct 31st that my dad wasn't doing well and not expected to survive the night, I know that the Lord heard my constant prayers in allowing my dad to hang on until Martin, Arthur, and I could get to Quincy IL from southwestern Virginia. During that ten-hour drive, a lot of things went through my mind ... memories of a lifetime! I am grateful that my dad knew his three children were there at his bedside before he passed. I know it must have frustrated dad that he couldn't speak in his final hours, and our conversations were limited to blinking once for 'yes' and twice for 'no'. My mother passed in October 2010, shortly after they celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary ... this year would have been their 50th. I know that my dad missed my mom these past four years as she was included in almost every conversation he and I had these past several months. Prior to my dad serving in the United States Air Force (in the Korean War), he served 4 years in the United States Navy, dropping out of school at the age of 17 to join at the tail-end of World War-II. He taught me about patriotism and pride in our country and to this day, I never pass up the opportunity to thank a veteran or an active-duty military person for their time in service. Therefore, I would like to send out a special THANK YOU to the Rock Falls American Legion for honoring my dad during his funeral. Thanks you Dad! I love you so much and will miss you every day!!!!
