Elsie G. Vols, age 92, 117 Stephens Avenue, Walnut, Illinois passed away Tuesday July 27, 2010 while visiting her daughter in Canton, Georgia.
She was born on July 29, 1917 in Sheffield, Illinois the daughter of Mel and Celestine (Schelfout) Versluis. Elsie was united in marriage on August 24, 1946 to Gilbert C. Vols in Sheffield, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1995. She worked at Prairie View Nursing in Princeton and Walnut Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut, Altar and Rosary, Stitch n Stab, and Walnut Senior Citiizens Center where she played pinochle and bingo.
Elsie is survived by one daughter Marilyn (Ronald) VanNote of Canton Georgia; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a daughter in law Marijo Vols of Stoughton, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Dennis, and one sister Marie DePauw.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday July 31, 2010 at 10 AM
at St. Johns Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Wilder, pastor officiating.
Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Sheffield, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:45 PM at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, Illinois. Condolences may be sent to www.garlandfuneralhome.com.
