Harold V. Schaefer, age 90, of Van Orin, Illinois died Saturday July 10 at Colonial Hall living Center in Princeton,Illinois.
Harold was born on October 19, 1919 in Harmon, Illinois, the son of Frederick and Hulda (Schulte) Schaefer. He was united in marriage to Mabel Fischer on June 5, 1955 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, Illinois. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a staff sergeant. He farmed in the LaMoille area and owned and operated Schaefer’s Country Store in Van Orin for 29 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Dixon, loved antiques and flea markets.
He is survived by his wife Mabel Schaefer of Van Orin, Illinois; two sons Larry Schaefer of Lancaster, California, Randy (Paula) Schaefer of Princeton, Illinois; one daughter Lori (Dan) Meagher of Peru, Illinois; seven grandchildren Beyond Marsh, Baron Schaefer both of California, Eric Schaefer, Paige Schaefer, Torri Schaefer all of Princeton, Illinois, Daniel Meagher, and Ian Meagher both of Peru, Illinois; one great granddaughter Lilium Marsh of California, two sisters Elsie Norden of Walnut, Illinois, Wilma Hann of Scottsdale, Arizona; one brother Martin Schaefer of Morrison, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Carl, Casper, Frederick, Andrew Schaefer, and one sister Hulda Renken.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bache Chapel in Van Orin with the Rev Frank Langholf, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Dixon, officiating. Burial will be in Van Orin Repose Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bache Chapel. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY.
