Christine Phillips, age 85, formerly of Ohio, Illinois died Wednesday April 15, 2009 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Illinois.
Christine was born on February 16, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky the daughter of Ellis and Lissie (Elmore) Underwood. She was united in marriage to David “Bliss” Phillips on March 10, 1946 in Princeton, Illinois and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2007. She worked a number of years at Harper-Wyman in Princeton, Illinois and then at Kraft Cheese in Manlius. She was last employed at Borg-Warner in Dixon, Illinois, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by one daughter Connie (George) Allen of Ohio, Illinois; two sons James (Cathy) Phillips of Hennepin, Illinois, Bradley Phillips of Ohio, Illinois; eight granddaughters Kathy Allen, Jenny Heidenreich, Amanda Petersen, Melissa Shepherd, Michelle Transou, Amy Darrah, Joleen Burton, and Angela Celaya, and 12 great grandchildren; three brothers Merrill Underwood of Princeton, Illinois, Eunice Underwood of Decatur, Illinois, Clell Underwood of Beloit, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Brian Caughlan, pastor of Hennepin United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services and burial of cremains will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HER MEMORY IN LIEU OF FLOWERS.
