Princeton, Illinois James L. Donovan, age 62, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. James was born on February 10, 1956 at Mendota Hospital, the son of Paul and Dolores (Lampe) Donovan. He married Dixie Stocking on November 25, 1981. Out of high school, Jim worked at Culligan Water in Wyanet and then for LCN Door Closers in Princeton for 23 years. He retired from Princeton Ready Mix. Survivors include his wife, Dixie; two children, Jim Skaggs of Walnut and Brenda Gomez of Spring Valley; seven grandchildren, Mike (Robin) Epperson, Jason (Bobbi) Skaggs, James Skaggs III, Christopher Mongan, Brittany Facemire, Andrew O’Toole and Tiffaney Vanous; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Donovan of Westmont; one brother, Bernard (Sara) Donovan of Walnut and one nephew, Paul Donovan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one great granddaughter, Lacie. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Thomas Shaw, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ohio. Ohio, Illinois Richard L. Mueller, age 72 of Ohio, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria unexpectedly. Richard was born on May 18, 1945 in Princeton, the son of Martin and Mildred (Norden) Mueller. Richard graduated from high school from Ohio. Richard farmed and was the owner and operator of Mueller Machinery Mart in Walnut for many years. He was an active member of the Ohio Lutheran Church. He served as a past church council president for many years and also participated in the living Last Supper presentation. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and was very involved in their lives and enjoyed the time he spent with them. Richard was married to Teresa Malone Mueller, they had three children together. Melanie Bloomquist of Bourbonnais, IL and Megan Mueller of Bradley, IL; one son Jared Mueller of Kankakee, IL and three grandchildren. He married Carole L. Sanderson on September 2, 1989 in Geneseo. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2015 they have three step sons, Mark (Traci) Leslie of Hartland, WI, Lance (Jennifer) Leslie of Bettendorf, IA and Brett (Heather) Leslie of Keller, TX; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Ohio Lutheran Church in Ohio. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Gene Vincent officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Ohio. Arrangements have been completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Rosemary Jane Swanson, age 90, of Walnut, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Heritage Health in Walnut. Rosemary was born July 6, 1927, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of David and Ida (Brown) Jones. She was united in marriage to Delbert Richard Swanson on July 25, 1989, in Davenport, Iowa. Rosemary was a homemaker and traveler for many years. In her early days she worked in a factory during the war, was a secretary, farmer, and savvy business woman. Rosemary always had a positive word for others, infectious smile and strong faith. She will be most remembered for her happy personality, kindness for others and selfless generosity. Survivors include her husband, Delbert Richard Swanson of Walnut; one daughter, Carla Baker of Kewanee; one son, Perry DeWitt Craig of Washington, Iowa; three step sons, Richard (Mary) Craig of Iowa City, Philip A. Swanson of Walnut, and Brian (Kristen) Swanson of Chicago; one granddaughter, Leslie (Alex) Schlue of Davenport; one step grandaughter, Haley Swanson of Chicago; and five great grandchildren, Addison, Shawn, Kirsten, Nolan and Kaitlyn of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, four sisters, Effie, Oney, Edith and Sarah; eight brothers, John, Frank, George, David, Daniel, Albert, Robert and Wayne; one great grandson, Jackson Alan Schlue. Sterling formerly of Walnut Sterling- Jeffery L. Johnson, Sr. 75, of Sterling, formerly of Walnut, died on Wednesday morning, February 28, 2018 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. He was born on October 31, 1942 in Princeton to Arnold and Shirley (Gallentine) Johnson. He was a chiropractor for 33 years, practicing in Monmouth from 1966-1999. He is survived by his sons, Jeffery (Sara) Johnson, Jr. of Dixon, Greg (Jessica) Johnson of Chillicothe and Rob (Ginger) Johnson of Macomb; his brothers, Gene Johnson of Princeton and Randall Johnson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, March 4 at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Cremation will follow. Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 5 at Walnut Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Walnut, IL WALNUT – Leona Minks, age 89, died at home, Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Leona was born on July 30, 1928 in Joliet the daughter of Denver L. and Edith M. (Mitchell) Fowler. She married Carl E. Minks on March 12, 1965 in Elgin. He died on February 19, 2005. Leona was a homemaker and was known to make the best gravy ever. She loved her family and enjoyed talking with them on the phone. Leona was a devout Christian, an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved her dog Misty. Survivors include three daughters, Violet (Robert) Martin of Fenton, Mich., Sue (Jim) Boyd of Lisle and Sandie (Larry) Parker of Elon, N.C.; two sons, Robert Summers of Springfield, Mo. and Carl (Danette) Minks of Walnut; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Russell, Samantha, Kenny, Bobby, Leanna, Nick, Mandy and Emma; eleven great grandkids; numerous other kids that knew her as “Grandma Sunshine”. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Joey; three brothers; one sisters. Graveside services for family and friends at Van Orin Cemetery with Reverend Eldon Cook of Walnut Community Bible Church officiating will be announced at a later date. Walnut WALNUT – Albert A. Jacobs, 85, of Walnut, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at his home. He was born on June 5, 1932 in Sibley, IL the son of Hans and Tina (Peters) Jacobs and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Albert was a proud veteran having served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He married Marjorie Peterson on June 17, 1956 in Kasbeer, IL. Mr. Jacobs had worked as a woodworker for many years before retiring. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut, the Walnut American legion Post 179 and the Wyanet VFW. Survivors include his wife Marjorie; two daughters: Ann (Tom) Dean of Loveland, OH and Carol (Bob) Howes of Walnut; two sons: Don (Kristina) Jacobs of Walnut and Rod (Jennifer) Jacobs of Walnut; 8 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter and 2 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Allan; one daughter Mary Ellen; and his brother Edward. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 1 PM in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut, with the Reverend Brian Heller officiating. Private family burial will be at the Walnut Cemetery. There will be no visitation, with arrangements completed by the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Ohio, IL Helen W. Swanson Helen W. Swanson, age 94, of Ohio, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Helen was born September 5, 1923 in Princeton the daughter of Ferris and Gladys (Davis) Paden. She married Guy B. Sisler, Jr. He died during WWII. She later married Richard W. Swanson on November 26, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 26, 2005. Helen was a mother and homemaker who loved spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed raising and showing Appaloosa horses with her husband and granddaughters, Dawn and Stacy. Living are her beloved family members: one daughter, Barbara DeBruhl of Sun Prairie, Wis.; one step daughter, Kathy Head of Monticello; one sister, Betty Bass of Walnut; four grandchildren, Dawn (Phil) Hasz, Brooks (Carol) DeBruhl, Stacy (Mike) Weiner and Josh (Rebekah Burwell) DeBruhl; two step granddaughters, Darla (Gary) Lynn and Chris (Tim) Harman; seven great grandchildren, Derek DeBruhl, Keely Brown, Brady DeBruhl, Cody Hasz, Sylvia Hasz, Cooper Hasz and Zoey Weiner; six step great grandchildren, Mallory Lynn, Brittany Lynn, Dan Harman, Nathan Harman, Zachary Harman, and Jenna Harman; and several nieces and nephews, who meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by both husbands; her parents; two sisters, Phyllis Pomeroy and Roberta Thompson; her son-in-law, Buddy DeBruhl; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Bass and Joe Pomeroy. Tampico, Illinois Mr. Ronald Leroy Kelly, age 73 a resident of Tampico, Illinois and winter resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, Florida. Mr. Kelly was born August 4, 1944 in Princeton, Illinois to Leroy and Margaret (Warner) Kelly. He married Kathryn Brandau, his high school sweetheart, on June 13, 1965, in Yorktown, Illinois. He and his wife were snowbirds in Auburndale, Florida for 5 years and before in Ft. Myers, Florida for 5 years. Ron was a retired farmer in the agricultural industry. In his early years he worked at Northwestern Steel & Wire, Bureau County Highway and had his own dump truck business. Ron also started two businesses called “Fly High Divider” & “Quick Winch Products” plus being involved in Conklin Chemical Company. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown, Illinois. In Florida he attended the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Florida and Lena Vista United Methodist Church in Auburndale, Florida. Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife to Europe where they spent 6 weeks visiting 9 countries and also many trips in the US. He also loved to take family trips with his children while they were growing up, dancing, plays, playing card games, fishing, the beach, milkshakes and ice cream. When his grandchildren turned 9-10 he and his wife would take them on a special trip just for them. He loved to spend time with his family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. She was born on December 23, 1944 in Tampico, the daughter of Clifford and Lulu (Rasmussen) Thompson. She married Robert Hassler on March 31, 1973 at the New Bedford Christian Church. She was a CNA for 33 years; worked at the former Peerless Level in Walnut form 1973 -1979 and also was employed at the New Bedford Post Office for about 7 years. Survivors include her husband Robert; daughter Kathy Hassler of New Bedford; three sisters: Peggy (David) Hassler of Walnut, Joyce Lauritzen of Tampico and Susan Newman of Tampico; two brothers: Ned (Renie) Thompson of Tampico and Daniel (Bonnie) Thompson of Princeton; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister in infancy. Visitation will be held on Friday January 26, 2018 from 9 - 11 AM and the funeral at 11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Reverend Brian Moore, pastor of the New Bedford Christian Church officiating. Ohio, IL OHIO- Gary Massino, age 73, died at his home Monday, January 15, 2018. Gary was born on March 23, 1945 in Streator, the son of Frank and Sandrina (Carrera) Massino. He married Sally Kuehl on August 13, 1966 in Toluca. Gary played basketball and baseball in high school, striking out 19 batters in 7 innings against Peoria Manual High School. He played baseball for a minor league team in Champagne. Gary was an avid golfer in later years, having had 2 holes in one. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp Air Wing from 1966-1968 where he received a Meritorious Mast for flexibility and desire to excel under mounting responsibilities and difficulty. Survivors include: his wife Sally Massino of Ohio; one son, Scott Massino of Ohio; four brothers, Chester (Yvonne) Massino of Toluca, Joseph (JoAnn) Massino of Hennepin, Lawrence (Sally) Massino of Villa Park and Frank J. (Sarah) Massino of Morro Bay, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters; 1 brother. Gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ohio. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM with Reverend Thomas Shaw officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
